This is the latest in Aberfeldy's annual wine cask series, originally made available exclusively in the UK from the distillery. Initially spending 18 years in a combination of 1st fill Bourbon, re-char and refill casks, the whisky has undergone a finishing period of around 4-5 months in Pauillac Bordeaux casks. Malt Master, Stephanie MacLeod, chose these casks to bestow secondary textures and fruits with luscious, red berry characteristics. Once you taste this whisky we think you will agree on her choices.
Nose: The barrel toast is immediately apparent with notes of dark brown sugar and caramel-covered cookies also emerging.
Palate: The wine-driven fruit is more evident on the palate, which gives the body a berry-heavy, almost plummy element.
Finish: The wine elements follow through to the finish with some tannic elements tamping back the up-front fruitiness and drying things out.
