Boulder is a small Colorado whiskey company with big dreams, bigger goals and the biggest pot still in the state. They take traditions from Scotland, along with American ingenuity to find a balance that creates award winning whiskies.
This whiskey is a single cask, 100% American peated single malt from Boulder Spirits in Colorado and bottled for the "Edmonton Whisky Forum". The whisky was distilled in June of 2016 and was placed in a #3 char(heavily charred) virgin oak barrel for nearly seven years before being bottled in May of 2023. 180 bottles are being released in Edmonton with the remainder of the cask being sold exclusively at the distillery. When first opened the liquid comes across as tight (tannins) with the flavours being somewhat muted. But once the bottle has a chance to open up you are in for a treat.
Nose: This is fruit forward whisky where the fruit is more prominent than the very subtle peat and smoke. The peat is more of an earthy note that compliments, rather than dominates the whisky.
Palate: Once the fruit subsides you should start to pick up on some rich, dark chocolate flavours as well as light cola note that you often get with Boulder expressions.
Finish: Earthy and rich - with bigger notes of dark chocolate.
