The first bottling of The GlenAllachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength happened by chance. In 2017, whilst reviewing parcels of stock from 2007 and 2008, our Master Distiller Billy Walker was so delighted by the balance and depth of the samples that he immediately decided to add a younger expression to the core range. The batch #5 was released in 2021 and was aged in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons along with a small quantity of Virgin Oak and Rioja casks. Total outturn was a mere 4500 bottles.
Nose: A high degree of balance with raisins, dates and chocolate truffles as well as pralines, but also gentle notes of apple peel and cherry candy canes. Faint notes of red berries and crème de cassis too. Extremely rich and enticing.
Palate: Thick mouthfeel and a somewhat spicy arrival (black pepper, cloves, cinnamon) with a touch of resin and mint. Honey, sweet dates and brown sugar, as well treacle and some bitter coffee.
Finish: Notes of nutmeg and mint, followed by cotton candy and fudge.
