The Paré Family farms east of Edgerton on the way to Chauvin. Don and Louise are small town through and through, not driven by ambition but rather focused on quality of life and the desire to see their neighbours and community thrive. They’ve instilled in their family the importance of preserving the rural way of life in an increasingly urbanized culture and that kind of commitment comes from a deep-rooted sense of pride and contentment about where you are and where you make your home. Don and Louise’s children are the 4th generation to farm in this area and their kids go to the same elementary school their parents did. And they’re part of a movement that’s bringing younger generations back to rural areas: a few years ago the preschool class at the local school had 3-4 kids. This year, there are fifteen. Don and Louise are happy to see their children’s generation taking up the work of a small town whether that be coaching the hockey team or running the scouts troop. They worked hard to find new things to keep their small towns vibrant, which is why Don got involved as one of the original founders of Ribstone Creek Brewery. They believe it’s important to increase opportunity in small towns and continue to find the richness and value in rural living to preserve this way of life.
