Longmorn 16 Year
Regular price $215.00
Located near the town of Elgin in the heart of the Spey region, Longmorn was constructed in 1893 under the watchful eye of John Duff - who also designed Glenlossie and built the Benriach Distillery right next to Longmorn. The spirit was prized almost immediately for its robust flavour, sweetness and depth - Longmorn became an essential contributor to the Dewar's and Vat 69 blends. In 1920, the young Masataka Taketsuru, one of the fathers of Japanese whisky and founder of Nikka, spent a short period working in the distillery. The stills at Nikka’s two distilleries are said to be modeled on Longmorn’s.
Nose: Lemon, honey, sweet apple, caramel and some butterscotch A faint oiliness suggests complexity.
Palate: Rich and syrupy in body. Chocolate, pepper, nutty malt, nougat and a faint tartness - perhaps orange zest.
Finish: Medium. Warming, with remnants of freshly-baked sugar cookies. Very nutty taste at first that evolves into some sweet dark chocolate, cashew butter and some faint orange notes
