One of Michter's most limited production expressions, the Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye continues the legacy of America's first whiskey variety (rye) from America's first whiskey company (Michter's was originally located in Pennsylvania and started out as the Shenk's Distillery). Revived and moved to Kentucky in the mid-2000s, Michter's did not start producing and laying down spirit at their own facility until 2015 so this batch was distilled under license at Brown Forman's Old Forester facility in Louisville using the Michter's unique mashbill.
Nose: Crisp Rye with great caramel notes with plenty of oak spice. Hints of vanilla, toasted oak spice and green apple followed by vanilla cake and bubblegum.
Palate: Bold and flavourful notes of black cherry, candied fruit peels and strangely enough; Kiwi. Sweet like vanilla butter cream and Werther’s hard candies.
Finish: Soft, silken and spicy sums this one up. Honey and lemon drop candies abound - then tingly and warming.
