Established in 2011, Single Cask Nation began as a social fellowship or membership society organized around the right to purchase rare, fine single cask whiskies under the Single Cask Nation label. In 2017, J&J Spirits launched a retail line of Single Cask Nation products specifically for liquor stores and finer whisk(e)y bars. These new products, only available in Europe and the United States until now, are now being made available to Single Cask Nation aficionados here in Canada.
Ardmore was built by Wm. Teacher at the end of the 19th century, and as a rare peated Highland single malt, provided the smoky qualities in their well-loved blends. Now owned by Beam Suntory, official bottlings are rarely available but independent releases have appeared regularly and are much sought after. This particular expression was distilled in 1997 and matured in a single hogshead for 23 years. Total outturn: 262 bottles.
Nose: Burning wet leaves from the forest floor. Wildflower honey and a distinct minerality.
Palate: Heavily charred oak, chocolate malt and creosote. Roasted chestnuts with bold, zesty spice.
Finish: Long finish with dried fruit and savoury spices.
