This splendid Islay single malt is named for Elizabeth Leitch 'Bessie' Williamson who was a Scottish distillery manager and former owner of the Laphroaig Distillery. She was noted for being the first woman to manage a Scotch whisky distillery during the 20th century and is credited as being instrumental in promoting single malt whisky (particularly Islay malts and Laphroaig) in North America. This expression was distilled at Laphroaig under the Williamson name in 2013 and aged in a single hogshead. Total outturn: 1588 bottles.
Nose: Oak and coastal bonfire smoke with lemon drizzle cake and dried orange.
Palate: Bright on the salt, sea spray, seaweed, pine and mint.
Finish: Maritime tar, plenty of peat smoke, and spicy oak, with candied fruits and peppery spice lingering.
