In 1856, James A. Miller built a distillery and started making Chicken Cock Whiskey in Paris, Kentucky. For 100 years it was an active distillery but market trends forced a closure in the 1950s.
In 2011, Chicken Cock's fortunes changed when spirits entrepreneur Matti Anttila discovered the brand in the Oscar Getz Museum while researching the early days of distillation in the U.S. With Chicken Cock simply being a faded memory of the past at that time, Anttila decided that the Famous Old Brand was worthy of a rebirth.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Nose: Nice balance of oak tones with sweet notes of dried fruit, caramel and vanilla.
Palate: Soft oak tannin upfront, which dissipates into delightful toasted oak lactones. There's a slight bourbon heat that let's you know this is a real deal, full-bodied bourbon. On the tongue, it evolves into a creamy almost buttery mouthfeel with sweet butterscotch notes.
Finish: Vanilla wafer finish with salted caramel.
