Bard "You Got Gold" John Price Edition is a collaboration between the Bard Distillery, Oh Boy Records and The Hello In There Foundation. It is a special, limited-edition bourbon in honour of legendary singer-songwriter John Prine.
Five different rye-based mash bills went into this expression; the vast majority were barrelled in 2020 — the same year John passed.
Fun Fact: The ABV for this whiskey was consciously set at 50.5%, which is 101.0 on the American proofing scale. 101.0 (1010) coincides with John Prine's birthday — October 10.
Total worldwide outturn: 7000 bottles.
Nose: Sweet corn and grassy notes signal the expected, traditional bourbon notes of vanilla, butterscotch and Christmas spices.
Palate: Sweet corn starts things off but is quickly replaced by a predominant oakiness. Luckily, there is plenty of rich treacle, baking spices and white pepper to balance that off - particularly in the mid-palate.
Finish: Medium-long with a creamy mouthfeel. The baking spice lingers with hints of toasted grain, vanilla and dried citrus peel at the end.
