Broken Barrel Whiskey Co. was founded by Seth Benhaim who originated the concept from experimentation with used barrels (Bourbon, French oak, and sherry casks from Spain). The company actually trademarked the breaking down the barrel staves and inserting them in the whiskey for finishing - calling it the “Oak Bill”.
Mash Bill: 70% Corn, 21% Rye, 9% Malted Barley
Oak Bill: 40% New French Oak Staves, 40% ex-fill Bourbon Staves, 20% Sherry Cask Staves
Nose: Raspberry jam, figs, plums and a hint of oak
Palate: Vanilla from the bourbon cask prevalent as is the stone fruit and jammy notes from the nose.
Finish: Long and spicy - no doubt from the higher rye content.
