Every now and then, we, in Canada, are treated to an exclusive distillery release.
The GlenAllachie 2011 is just such an expression from hall of fame Master Blender, Billy Walker.
Distilled in October 2011, this whisky rested in a ruby port pipe, all the while developing some special characteristics. The decision was made to bottle at 11 years in order to capture these unique qualities and interesting nuances.
Nose: Lively and vibrant nose with stewed stone fruit, oak spice, and Fry’s cocoa powder.
Palate: Full-bodied and fruity, abundant with juicy orange, sweet strawberry and Maraschino cherry flavours. Underneath it all, a layer of dark chocolate.
Finish: Long and luscious with vinous fruit, dark chocolate from the palate and plenty of tongue-tugging tannins.
