Founded in 1825 by merchant George Cooper in the town of Brechin, located within the burgh of Angus in Scotland's eastern highlands. In the 20th century the distillery was owned by Hiram Walker and also George Ballantine and Sons. Mothballed in 2000 the distillery was purchased and re-commissioned In 2003 by Angus Dundee and has been producing a full range of age statement products while still being a major component of the iconic Ballantine's blend. The 21 year expression is a balanced mix of ex-fill bourbon casks and refill sherry casks.
Nose: Fresh with orchard fruit, creamy vanilla and a hint of orange oil.
Palate: Waxy and sweet mouthfeel with a balance of fresh oak casks and malt. Grilled pineapple, creamy plain cheesecake, candied ginger and tropical citrus.
Finish: Long with strong vanilla overtones. Coconut, pineapple, apricots, peaches, milk chocolate and toasted oak linger on the palate.
