AMRUT

Amrut Distillery was founded in 1948 by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna shortly after India had become independent. Amrut soon became successful by supplying the Indian army with spirits. Today the company owns three distilleries and several bottling plants. The current main distillery is located in Kambipura, 20 km (12 miles) away from Bangalore, and was built in 1987. It employs 450 people since many production steps such as bottling and packaging are still done by hand.

Fusion is one of Amrut’s most popular single malts. The mash is a mixture of 25% peated Scottish malt and 75% unpeated Indian malt which are both distilled and aged independently. To finish, the casks are married together and re-casked in ex-fill bourbon barrels at the Amrut distillery in Bangalore for an additional three months. The result is a lightly-peated malt whisky with the tropical fruit characteristics common to Indian whisky.

Nose : Heavy, heavily oaked and complex: some curious barley-sugar notes shrouded in soft smoke. Big, but seductively gentle, too.

Palate : The delivery, though controlled at first, is massive! A vague sherry trifle note (curious, seeing how there are no sherry butts involved) hammers home that barley - fruitiness to make for a bit of a free-for-all. Intense chocolate fudge absolutely resonates through the palate.

Finish: Enough molasses sweetness to see the malt through to a satisfying end with predominant spiciness.
