AMRUT

Amrut Distillery was founded in 1948 by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna shortly after India had become independent. Amrut soon became successful by supplying the Indian army with spirits. Today the company owns three distilleries and several bottling plants. The current main distillery is located in Kambipura, 20 km (12 miles) away from Bangalore, and was built in 1987. It employs 450 people since many production steps such as bottling and packaging are still done by hand.

This Indian whisky was originally matured in either ex-bourbon casks or virgin oak casks. The whiskies then went through an intermediate maturing process in Sherry butts at Amrut’s Bangalore distillery. Amrut then transferred the whisky back into ex-bourbon casks for another round of aging.

Nose: Red fruit leather, cocoa-nuts, graham crackers, citrus zest, sugared blueberries and spice. And instead of the usual Amrut biscuit aroma, now moist cake.

Palate: Dried fruit, malt, 70% dark chocolate, candied peel, baking spice, blueberries and a hint of walnuts. Compared to the nose the palate is almost light.

Finish: Long with the dried dark fruit and spice carrying through.
