ARDNAMURCHAN
First distillery to be opened on the Ardnamurchan penninsula. 100% of the hydro-electric power and cooling waters for the stills are sourced from the Glenmore River flowing outside the distillery. Using wood chips as a fuel source from surrounding forests, a biomass boiler provides the hot water to heat the stills. The draff is distributed to local area farmers and the pot ale is used for fertilizing their fields. Local barley, grown on the estate of one of the owners, is used for malt.
Trumpeted as being bottled exclusively for Canada (likely not as only a small allocation came here) the reality is that it is exclusive to Alberta. Supposedly we are the only market in the World to get its own cask - so it's special. This expression uses un-peated barley and was matured exclusively in an first fill Bourbon barrel. There is no added colour and is non-chill filtered. Bottled at true cask strength.
Producer Tasting Notes:
Nose: Smouldering driftwood, sea salt, smoked Gouda cheese, lanolin, Granny Smith apples, brine.
Palate: Manuka honey on buttered toast, good texture, white pepper, sea salt again, apple pie, ashy, lemon.
Finish: Long, lingering and zesty.
