Until 2007, Benrinnes had a unique triple distillation process that resulted in a single malt highly prized by blenders for its distinct "meaty" quality. So much so in fact, that none was spared for an official distillery bottling until United Distillers introduced the 15 year old Flora & Fauna release. Thankfully, the distillery has always featured in the catalogues of independent bottlers, giving ample opportunity to experience this sought after single malt. This is a small batch bottling from La Maison du Whisky under their Artist Collective brand was distilled in 1996 and is bottled from a marriage of 3 hogsheads.
Nose: Fragrant and intense fruit. Some spice but it is in the background.
Palate: Citrus, Bosc pears, lavender honey and a bit of farm funk. Give it some air to release some of the intensity.
Finish: Un-complexity is the key. Long enough to get the oak spice and vanilla aftertaste.
