William and Lucy Lowe started Cambridge Distillery with the vision to make gins that could capture the taste of the English seasons using fresh botanicals grown in and around their home in Cambridge. Soon they wanted to expand out and explore different flavours. Their thoughts were that gin production had remained almost completely unchanged since the mid-18th century. Most are good. Some are very good. But they wanted to achieve something outstanding.
Japanese Gin is the first gin to be made with Japanese botanicals. These Japanese botanics that support the juniper are individually distilled before being blended into a spirit of refined taste.
Refreshing yuzu peel, aromatic Shiso leaf, toasted white sesame and Sansho pepper spice are carefully selected to create a dry, crisp gin with green notes that perfectly capture the aromatic subtlety of the Japanese palate.
Nose: Aromatic pepper, zesty citrus and a soft vegetal note of cucumber. A bit of fresh ginger, too.
Palate: Drying spiciness at first, soon balanced once again by clean cucumber notes. Perhaps a touch of fresh peppermint.
Finish: Lemon pith and earthy/spicy juniper last.
