This rare, independently bottled Highland Park was uniquely finished in a STR (shaved, toasted & re-charred) cask. Very characteristic of an Orkney whisky with viscous notes of sea salt and smoke. Total worldwide outturn: 1603 bottles.
Nose: Rich oakiness - no doubt from the red wine cask. Bit of carbon and hints of stone fruits.
Palate: Satisfying creamy mouthfeel with definite tannins and astringency. Malt is identifiable but deeper chocolate and coffee notes are more prominent. Tartness on the back palate.
Finish: Youthfulness is exposed with the finish being shorter and more fruity than expected.
