In 1856, James A. Miller built a distillery and started making Chicken Cock Whiskey in Paris, Kentucky. For 100 years, it was an active distillery, but market trends forced a closure in the 1950s.
In 2011, Chicken Cock's fortunes changed when spirits entrepreneur Matti Anttila discovered the brand in the Oscar Getz Museum while researching the early days of distillation in the U.S.
With Chicken Cock a faded memory at the time, Anttila decided the Famous Old Brand was worthy of a rebirth.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Nose: Nice balance of oak tones with sweet notes of dried fruit, caramel and vanilla.
Palate: Soft oak tannin upfront, which dissipates into delightful toasted oak lactones. There's a slight bourbon heat that signals this is a real-deal, full-bodied bourbon. On the tongue, it evolves into a creamy, almost buttery mouthfeel with sweet butterscotch notes.
Finish: Vanilla wafer finish with salted caramel.
