Tomintoul distillery lies in the Livet Glen and forms a duo of distilleries (with Glencadam) under the ownership of Angus Dundee Distillers. Official bottlings tend towards the lighter side of the spectrum but this 15 year old has been bottled at a cask strength to give it an extra bit of oomph. Matured in a second fill sherry butt before being transferred to a Calvados cask for finishing.
Nose: Cereal grains with honey, apples and citrus fruits, Think muesli for your nostrils.
Palate: Sweet pastries, apple crumble with cinnamon. Pear cider with mulled spices. It will make an excellent wintertime toddy.
Finish: Long and drying. Black peppercorns and aniseed. Hints of lemon and apple.
