Ichiro’s 100% blended malts are sourced from two, historic distilleries: the shuttered Hanyu distillery, and the operational Chichibu distillery.
The malt from Hanyu was aged in sherry casks, and new make spirit from Chichibu was aged in ex-fill bourbon casks (Quercus Alba).
Once married, these two malts were then finished for a short period of time in Mizunara oak (Quercus Mongolica).
Nose: Lots happening here: wood notes, wet hayfields, tropical fruit and coconut.
Palate: A bit thinner than anticipated, ginger, white pepper and allspice. Nothing dominates.
Finish: Short and spicy. Ginger at the very end.
