Lochlea Single Malt - Ploughing Edition 1st Edition

Lochlea operated as a dairy farm until 2014, when the new owners decided that for a farm of this size to be viable, they needed to do something very different. In 2015, 50 acres of malting barley were planted and soon after the decision was made to build a farm distillery. 

Construction began in 2017, licenses were acquired and in August 2018 whisky production began on the very lands that Robbie Burns worked during the last half of the 18th century.

Under the management of ex-Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell. Having built up one of the top ten Scotch brands in the world over the past 27 years, John brought a wealth of knowledge and a burning ambition to help Lochlea fulfil its potential.

Ploughing Edition First Crop) is the first single malt from the distillery with a smoky profile! This whisky has been matured in a combination of ex-Islay whisky barrels and peated quarter casks, bringing an additional layer of smoke to Lochlea's characteristic DNA of fruit and cereal.

Nose: Earthy, warm apple fritters, Demerara molasses and cinnamon stick.

Palate: Campfire smoke, but balanced through to the back palate. Baked apple and buttery Walker's shortbread.

Finish: Campfire smoke flows through to the end with warming spices.
