Glen Moray started life as West Brewery in Elgin run by Robert Thorne & Sons, and was eventually converted to a distillery with 2 stills in 1897. Surviving handwritten ledgers show the first spirit run was made on September 13th, 1897, using local barley. This new make spirit was filled into a wide variety of casks, an unusual practice for the time.
Hunter Laing’s Old Malt Cask was created for single malt connoisseurs. Each month, the Hunter Laing tasting panel reviews the company stocks and after careful consideration selects only the casks which are of the highest quality. This single cask offering was distilled in April 2004, laid to rest in a refill bourbon cask, and bottled in May 2019.
