Mattie Gladden was a famous 19th century madam of a house of ill repute in Salem, Indiana. She was also rumoured to be the mistress of showman P.T. Barnum.
Mattie Gladden whiskey pays homage to this Indiana icon and is distilled at the The Spirits of French Lick Distillery (SOFL) in French Lick, Indiana. This expression has been aged for 4 years in #2 charred barrels. Interestingly, two strains of yeast are used in distillation. One strain is the SOFL 'house yeast' but the the second strain is a 'brandy yeast' which adds an additional fruity notes on the nose.
