Sound of Sleat is the fourth release in the Torabhaig Legacy Series, documenting the evolution of their signature style: 'Smoke with Taste'.
This expression is crafted from a blend of Concerto and Laureate malted barley, peated to 78PPM.
Torabhaig became the second distillery on the Isle of Skye and the first to be granted a license to distil since Talisker in 1830.
The distillery is located near the town of Teangue on the Sound of Sleat. Some of the outbuildings were built using stone from Caisteal Chamois (also known as Knock or Cnoc Castle), which dates back to 1630 and is associated with Clan MacDonald.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Nose: Notes of delicate orange lead followed by touches of apricot and popcorn, lending sweetness to the maritime seaweed that echoes in the glass. Subtle pipe tobacco adds to the elegant smokiness, rounded out by honey, vanilla and boiled sweets.
Palate: Light and zesty oak spice is joined by rich, sweet bonfire smokiness, so unmistakably Torabhaig spirit. Subtly waxy with hints of honey and vanilla, balancing sea salt and seaweed that ebbs away to white pepper and sweet spice.
Finish: Like a sunset over the Sound of Sleat, this is lingering and elegant with notes of honey, storms and the ocean.
