Auchentoshan

Auchentoshan

The distillery name literally means “corner of the field” in Scottish Gaelic. This was very likely true when the distillery was established just outside Glasgow in 1823. The distillery underwent many changes of owners in its formative years but the most significant change was when the Morrison Bowmore Group purchased the property in 1984. In 1994 Japanese drinks giant, Suntory, purchased all of Morrison Bowmore’s properties and they remain the owners of Auchentoshan to this day. Not just another Scottish Lowland distillery … what sets Auchentoshan apart from every other distillery in Scotland is that fact that every drop of liquid has been triple distilled. This affords the distiller the ability to increase the final ABV (alcohol by volume) to a higher percentage than those distilleries that double distill. It also creates a much lighter new-make spirit that when barrelled, tends to take on a much greater wood influence. Because of this, Auchentoshan takes great care and effort in selecting the very best casks that will create the desired flavour profiles for their whisky.
