Royal Brackla

Whisky making has taken place on this site since 1817, when the irascible Captain William Fraser took out a licence for his Brackla distillery – mainly it would seem to put a stop to the rascally moonshiners who were making a fine living in the surrounding lands. This made Fraser a deeply unpopular fellow ... but his whisky was well received - so much so that in 1835 it received the first Royal Warrant allowing it to be called 'Royal Brackla'. In 1879, it because closely associated with Andrew Usher (who is recognized for making the first commercial blend). The majority of the distillery output went into blends until 2015 when owner, Dewars, announced a new range of single malts would be launched. The revamped line now includes 12, 18 and 21 year expressions.
